Office politics exist whether you play or not. Understand them so they don’t play you.

Wherever people share resources and want the same things, there are alliances, histories and unspoken rankings. Refusing to notice does not exempt you from any of it, it just means decisions happen around you and you find out late. Understanding the room is not the same as being fake. It is knowing who talks to whom before you need that information.

Spend a few weeks just watching your group, team or class. Who actually decides, who influences the decider, where the old tensions sit. You do not have to use any of it, but you will stop being surprised, and surprise is where most of the damage happens.
