Never let someone rush you into signing, saying yes or deciding tonight. Pressure is a tactic, not a deadline.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Real deadlines have reasons attached, and someone can tell you what they are. Manufactured ones exist to stop you checking, comparing or asking anyone else, because the offer works best when nobody has time to look at it. The urgency is not about the opportunity closing. It is about your thinking closing.

Make it a rule that nothing important gets decided the same day it is presented. Say you will confirm tomorrow and watch what happens to the other person’s tone. Anything genuinely good survives a night, and anyone genuinely fine with you is fine with waiting.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Who pressures you to decide tonight when tomorrow would do?
