Holding back when you could crush someone isn’t weakness. It’s proof you’re in control of the strength.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Anyone can take the shot when it is available. What is rarer is having the shot and choosing not to, because that requires knowing what you could do and deciding it is not worth doing. Restraint from someone with no options is just a lack of options. Restraint from someone who could have ended it means something different.

When you have an advantage over someone, notice the moment where you could press it. Ask whether winning that way leaves you with anything you actually want. Often the better move is to let them keep their dignity, which costs you nothing and is remembered for a long time.
