Watching the clock at work means you get paid for the hour and still waste it. That’s selling your time twice.

STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

The hour leaves regardless of how you feel about it. Counting down does not shorten a shift, it just means you hand over the time and take nothing back from it except the money, which was coming anyway. Every job has something in it worth keeping: how to handle a difficult customer, how a business actually runs, who is good at their work and why. Those go home with you and the pay does not.

Choose one thing to get better at on your next shift. Speed, accuracy, or the skill of staying pleasant when somebody is not. Check at the end whether the shift felt shorter.
