Dependability is doing the ordinary thing when everyone expected another excuse.

There are people whose excuses arrive as reliably as their commitments, and everyone learns to expect them. Simply doing the ordinary thing when a reason to fail was available and would have been accepted is one of the clearest signals of character available.

Notice when you have a perfectly good excuse and do the thing anyway. Nobody will comment. It will still change how you are counted on.
