Every promise you break to yourself teaches you to stop believing your own voice.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Self trust runs on a track record exactly like trust in anybody else. Say you will get up at six, then do not, enough times, and part of you stops treating your own plans as real information. That is why motivation eventually stops working, because the problem is credibility rather than willpower, and you have learned to discount your own statements. Rebuilding it works the same way it would with a friend who kept cancelling.

Make one promise this week so small it would be embarrassing to break, then keep it. Ten pushups, one page, dishes before bed. The size matters far less than the streak.
