A clean “no” today beats a bitter “yes” you’ll resent all month.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Saying yes when you mean no does not avoid the conflict, it postpones it and adds resentment to it. You agree because refusing feels rude in the moment, then spend a month quietly annoyed at somebody who only asked a question. From their side you volunteered, so the irritation you are hauling around is invisible to them and unfair to you both.

Notice the split second where your chest drops before your mouth says yes. Buy time with a sentence about needing to check, then answer honestly. A no given early is easier on everyone than a yes you will be dragging behind you.
