Knowing and admitting are different operations, and the gap between them can run for months. You register something early, then quietly file it as a one-off, or as your fault, or as the price of keeping something you wanted. That is not stupidity, it is what wanting something does to evidence. Hope is very good at renaming things.

Notice whether you are currently translating somebody for yourself. Say the plain version out loud to one friend and watch their face, because their face is often more honest than your reading. If you missed something before, that is worth learning from rather than holding against yourself.
