New facts showed up? Changing your mind isn’t losing. Refusing to is.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Holding a position after the evidence has moved is not strength, it is just slower. The discomfort comes from treating an opinion as part of you, so revising it feels like being defeated rather than being updated. People who change their minds well tend to say what changed, out loud, which makes it obvious they were following the facts rather than the mood.

When something new lands that does not fit what you believed, say so within the same conversation. A plain sentence works: that changes my view, here is why. Then notice that almost nobody thinks less of you, and that a few people trust you more.
