A bully’s volume says nothing about your value. Loud and correct aren’t the same thing.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Volume and accuracy have nothing to do with each other. Someone being loud about you tells you about their afternoon, their need for an audience, whatever they are hauling around, and almost nothing about what you are worth. That is hard to hold onto in the moment, because noise impersonates authority. Confidence in the delivery is not evidence.

When it happens, keep your face still and your answer short, and take the real problem to an adult or a friend you trust. Do not argue with volume, since volume is all you would be arguing with. Save your energy for people whose opinion you would actually ask for.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Whose loud opinion have you accepted as a measurement of you?
