A hard stretch makes you grateful for boring days. Boring starts to feel like a luxury.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Ordinary days are almost impossible to appreciate while you are having them, because nothing in them demands attention. It takes a difficult season to reveal what a quiet Tuesday actually contains: working health, a settled house, nothing urgent. Relief recalibrates you for a while, and in that window you can see plainly what was there the whole time.

While the recalibration lasts, write down two or three things about a normal day you would miss. Keep the note. The feeling fades, as it should, but the list stays accurate for the next time you call a good week uneventful.
