Much of what looks like a shared idea of the good life is bought placement, tuned to make you want something specific. The wanting feels like your own because it arrived gradually and in the same stream as everything else. It is worth knowing which of your ambitions you chose and which were sold to you.

Take one thing you want badly and trace where the picture of it came from. If you cannot find a moment when you decided it, that is worth sitting with. Keep the ones that survive the question, and let the rest quietly go.
