Consequences are the most honest teacher you’ll ever have. They just don’t do office hours.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
Results tell you the truth without softening it and without any interest in your feelings about it. They also arrive unannounced, at the wrong time, with no explanation attached, which is why the lesson is often received as an insult instead of information. The honesty and the harshness are the same property.
When something lands badly, try reading it as a report rather than a verdict. Ask what it is telling you about the mechanism, and separate that from what it seems to be saying about you.
What did a consequence teach you that advice never could?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
