“I have to go to practice” and “I get to go to practice” are the same trip with a totally different passenger.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

The trip is fixed; the sentence you carry into it is not. Obligation and privilege can describe the same hour, and whichever one you reach for shapes how heavy that hour feels before it starts. None of this is about pretending to enjoy something you dislike. It is about noticing you had a choice in the description and picked the tired one out of habit.

Catch one thing you say you have to do this week and try the other word on it, honestly. If it fits, keep it. If it does not, that is worth knowing too, because some obligations really are just obligations.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Which obligation would change if you called it a privilege?
