Call yourself “bad at math” enough times and your brain stops showing up to the test.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Labels work like instructions. Once you have filed yourself under bad at something, effort starts to feel pointless, so you stop getting the practice that would contradict the label, and the label survives on evidence it created itself. It rarely began with anything reliable, usually a hard year or a class that moved fast. The word ends up doing more work than the ability ever did.

Swap the verdict for a timeline and say you have not learned it yet, which is simply accurate. Then take one thing you cannot currently do and work at it for twenty minutes.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

What are you bad at only because you keep saying so?
