Most resentment starts with an expectation nobody said out loud. Say it early and you won’t have to fight about it later.

Expectations that are never said still get enforced. You hold a picture of what should happen, the other person never receives it, and when reality misses the picture the disappointment is real even though nobody told them what they were failing. Resentment grows in that gap. It feels like betrayal from inside and like confusion from outside.
Catch yourself expecting and say the expectation out loud early, while it is still small and unemotional. Ask whether they can do it. A spoken expectation becomes either an agreement or a no, and both of those are workable.
