Great leaders ask more questions than they give orders. “What would you try?” turns followers into teammates.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Orders get compliance and questions get thinking, and only one of those keeps working when you leave the room. Asking someone what they would try tells them their judgement counts, and people who believe that start catching problems instead of reporting them upward. It is slower at first and far less work later.

The next time you know the answer, ask anyway. Let the other person go first, and accept a plan that is slightly worse than yours if it is theirs. You are building someone who can decide without you.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Which order could you have asked as a question instead?
