Merging onto the highway the first time is terrifying. Two weeks later you’re singing along to the radio doing it.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Almost every skill has a stretch where it feels impossible and then quietly becomes ordinary, and you rarely notice the day it flips. The terror is not a verdict on whether you can do it; it is just what the first few repetitions feel like. Two weeks of practice does something that no amount of dreading it will.

Whatever you are currently avoiding because the first attempt was frightening, do it again this week and then again. Count the repetitions rather than judging each one. You are waiting for boredom, and boredom arrives faster than you would guess.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH
