The machine can make pictures all day. Deciding what’s worth making is still a human job.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Production has become cheap and judgment has not. Anything can be generated in quantity now, which means the scarce part is no longer the making but the deciding: what is worth existing, what to keep, what a thing is actually for. That decision requires taste, and taste comes from having cared about something for a long time.

Spend your effort on the choosing rather than on the volume. Look at ten outputs and be able to say why one is better, in words. The skill worth building is the one that tells you when to stop and what to throw away.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

What would you choose to make if output were free?
