Disagreeing with everything for attention isn’t being original. It’s being predictable in the opposite direction.

Automatic opposition is still being steered by whatever it opposes. If your position can be worked out from the consensus by flipping the sign, you are not thinking independently. You are outsourcing the decision to the crowd and then inverting it, which is a shorter leash than it looks.

Check whether you ever land on the popular answer. Someone reasoning from scratch agrees with the room some of the time, and if you never do, the pattern is coming from somewhere other than the evidence.
