Make the thing you’d want to find at 1 a.m. If you love it, someone out there will too.

You are a more reliable source of information about what is missing than any guess about strangers. If something would genuinely help you at the hour when nothing else does, that need exists in other people too, and they are almost certainly not being served either. Designing for a real person you know well beats designing for an imagined average.

Ask what you have looked for recently and failed to find. Build that, aimed squarely at yourself, and let the resemblance to others be a consequence rather than the target.
