Every default setting was a choice someone made. Ask if it’s the right one for your work.

Defaults arrive looking like neutral ground, though each one was decided by somebody solving for an average user who is probably not you. Left alone they quietly shape what you produce, since the easiest path is always the one already set. Most people never look, which is partly why so much work comes out sharing a family resemblance.

Go through the settings of a tool you use daily and change three of them on purpose. You can change them back. The point is finding out what you had been accepting without deciding.
