Clean the corners of the room too. Anybody can make the middle look good.

The visible portion of any job gets done by default, because it is what people check. The edges are where you find out whether someone was doing the work or managing the appearance of it. Over time the difference shows up in things that are hard to trace back, like whether your work needs checking before anyone uses it.

Pick the part of your current task that nobody will inspect and do it properly. The last paragraph, the back of the shelf, the file nobody opens. Consider it practice for the day when someone does look.
