Letting an app write the essay gets it submitted. It doesn’t make you any sharper when the app isn’t in the room.

Finishing a task and developing the capacity to do it are two different outcomes, and only one of them lasts. Handing the work over solves today and leaves the underlying ability exactly where it was, which is fine until you are somewhere the help is unavailable. The cost is invisible at the moment it is incurred.

Use the tool for the parts that are not the point, and do the thinking part yourself. If you use it for a draft, rewrite that draft from scratch afterwards. Ask what you would be able to do unaided.
