Smart is knowing the answer. Wisdom is knowing when to keep it to yourself.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Knowing the answer and knowing whether to say it are two different capacities, and only one of them is taught. Being right creates a pull to demonstrate it, especially when someone else is visibly wrong, and acting on that pull often costs more than the correction is worth. Restraint here is not dishonesty, it is judgment about timing and audience.

Before you offer the thing you know, ask whether it helps the person or only settles the room. Wait for the question when you can. Some things land properly a week later and not at all today.
