Being right is a poor prize. You can win the argument completely and still lose weeks of a friendship, because the disagreement stops being about the original issue almost immediately and becomes about who will move first. Someone has to, and the person who does gives up very little compared to what the silence costs.

Send the message today, short, without a defense attached to it. Apologize for your part specifically rather than for the general situation. Do it before you have worked out whether they deserve it, since that calculation will keep you waiting for months.
