A neighborhood teaches expectations through what children see every day.

REFLECTION
Children absorb the ordinary before they can question it. What jobs people have, how adults speak to each other, what is normal to want, what happens when things go wrong. None of this is taught explicitly and all of it becomes the baseline against which everything later is measured. A neighbourhood is a curriculum nobody wrote down.
If you have children near you, notice what the everyday scene is teaching them. What they see repeatedly matters more than what they are told. That is also true of what they see you do.
What did you learn to expect from what surrounded you as a child?
