LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Silence in the presence of cruelty is a position, not a neutral space. Everyone in the room reads it, including the person being targeted, who learns exactly who is available to them. Belief that produces no action when someone is being hurt has not yet reached the part of you that moves.

You do not have to confront anyone loudly. Stand next to the person, say their name, change the subject, walk with them afterward. Tell an adult when it is serious, even at a cost to you. Small interventions by one person change what a group considers acceptable.
