You don’t do good to get saved. You do good because you already are.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
Earning and belonging run in opposite directions. When good behaviour is the fee, every kind act carries an anxious edge and every failure threatens your standing. When it is a response instead, the same act is free of that arithmetic. The standing came first, and the goodness follows it rather than paying for it.
Watch what you do the day after you do something you regret. If the reflex is a flurry of making up for it, slow down and ask who is being paid. Then do the good thing anyway, out of gratitude rather than terror, and notice how different the same action feels.
What are you trying to earn that was already given?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
