Geography can influence identity without owning it.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
Where you are from shapes your accent, your assumptions, your humour, and a good deal of what you find normal. It does not get to determine what you value, what you do, or who you become, though it will often be treated as though it does, by others and sometimes by you. Influence and ownership are different relationships.
When someone reads your background as your identity, notice whether you are accepting the reading. Take what is accurate and set the rest down. Being from somewhere is a fact about you, not a description of you.
How much of who you are came from where you grew up?
