God isn’t your genie, your bodyguard, or your backup plan. He’s your Father.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
How you address someone tells you what you think they are for. A genie is for requests, a bodyguard is for emergencies, a backup plan is for when the real plans fail. All three are useful and all three are transactional, which is why they leave you oddly alone. A father is a relationship with no function attached to it.
Look at what your last few prayers, or your last few honest thoughts upward, have actually been about. If they are all requests, add one that asks for nothing. Talk about your day rather than your needs, and see whether the thing you wanted was ever really about getting something.
