Envy and gratitude can read the same life. One circles the missing items; the other circles the paid ones.
GRATITUDE
GRATITUDE
Two people can look at an identical situation and file opposite reports, because both are counting and they are counting different things. Envy runs down the list of what is absent, which is always long and always available. Gratitude counts what is present, which takes more effort, since those things do not announce themselves. Same life, different column.
Notice which column you have been adding up lately, since it usually becomes a habit without ever being chosen. Write the other one out tonight, ten items, however small they look on paper. It will feel forced the first time and considerably less so by the third.
Which list do you keep longer, what you lack or have?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
