Get far enough from city lights and the sky shows you how many stars were there the whole time.

STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

The stars were never absent. The light nearby was simply drowning them out, which is a fair description of a lot of things, since what you can perceive depends heavily on how much noise sits between you and it. Going somewhere darker adds nothing to the sky. It removes the interference that was hiding what was already there.

Get out of town once this year and look up properly, giving it fifteen minutes so your eyes adjust. Then apply the same principle closer to home: turn something off and see what becomes audible. Quiet mostly reveals rather than creates.
