If you’re scared to lose something, stop and notice: you have something worth being scared for.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Fear of loss is a strange sort of receipt. It only turns up when something has real value to you, which means the anxiety and the good thing arrive together and cannot be separated. That does not make the fear pleasant. It does mean the fear is evidence rather than a warning, and reading it correctly changes what you do with it.

When the worry comes, name what you are afraid of losing. Then go and enjoy that thing today rather than standing guard over it. Tell the person, use the thing, be in it, since anxiety in the abstract grows and attention on the real thing does not.
