The friend who orders for you when you’re running late has been paying attention longer than you realized.

Knowing someone’s order is evidence that they have been paying attention for months without mentioning it. Nobody memorizes that on purpose. It accumulates because they were genuinely present during all those ordinary times when you were both just eating. Care often shows up as accurate information rather than as a declaration.

Look for the version of this aimed at you. Somebody knows how you take your coffee, which seat you prefer, what you never eat. Tell them you noticed that they noticed, then see whether you can name the same kind of detail back about them.
