Read the fine print of any success and you’ll find a list of other people’s names.

No achievement is as solo as the story it gets told in. Behind any result there is a teacher who stayed late, a friend who covered a shift, someone who paid for something, someone who said the useful sentence at the right moment. The account gets simplified because one name is easier to tell, and after enough retellings the teller starts believing the simple version.

Write your own fine print. List the people actually attached to the thing you are proudest of, and be honest about what each one did. Then tell at least one of them that they are on it.
