There is a difference between being addressed and being greeted. Some people say your name and the tone makes clear they are glad it is you, and you can hear it before working out why. It is not a favor they are doing deliberately. It is what genuine regard sounds like when it slips out in a single word.

Work out who those people are, since it is easy to spend your time elsewhere without noticing. Then try being one of them. Saying a name warmly is a very small act with a disproportionate effect on whoever hears it.
