New habits pinch like new sneakers. Give them a couple of weeks before deciding they don’t fit.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Discomfort in the first weeks of a new routine is not a compatibility problem. Anything unfamiliar rubs, and the rubbing is most severe exactly when you have the least evidence that it is worth it, which is why so many good changes get discarded in week two. It eases, and it does not ease immediately.

Commit to a fixed trial before you start, long enough to get past the stiff phase. Two weeks minimum, four if you can. Then decide. Judging it on day three tells you about the newness, not the fit.
