Flexibility is a condition you can maintain or lose. Minds harden through repetition and through the absence of anything that contradicts them, and the hardening is gradual enough that nobody notices it happening to themselves. Staying workable takes a small amount of ongoing friction.

Put yourself somewhere your assumptions get tested this month, even mildly. A book you expect to disagree with, a conversation with someone who sees it differently, a subject you know nothing about. Keeping the material soft is much easier than rewetting it later.
