Screaming at the ref never changed a call. It only changed how people see you.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Protest aimed at someone who cannot change the outcome is mostly about releasing the feeling, and everyone watching understands that. The call stays exactly where it was. What moves is the impression of you held by your teammates, the other side, and anyone else in earshot. That transfer happens whether or not you meant to make it.

Take the breath and play the next point when a call goes against you unfairly. Say what needs saying afterward, to someone who can actually act on it. Anger spent well is usually quieter than anger spent loudly.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Where does your temper cost you more than the call itself?
