A spotlight doesn’t change you. It just turns the brightness up on what was already there.

Attention does not create character, it magnifies whatever was already running. Generosity gets bigger and so does the other thing, and the person standing in the light is usually the last to notice which one is growing. That is why sudden visibility exposes people rather than changing them. Whatever shows up was there in the dark.

Keep the people who knew you before anything happened, and give them clear permission to tell you things. Ask one of them now and then whether you have changed. Believe the answer they give.
