REFLECTION
Cruelty with no name attached wants the whole effect and none of the cost. The mask is not incidental to it; the mask is what makes the sentence possible, since hardly anyone would say those words in a room where they could be answered. Whatever is driving it, usually something sore, gets no relief from being sent either.
On the receiving end, let the hiding tell you how much weight the words deserve, which is very little. If you are the one holding the phone, wait an hour before sending anything you would not sign. The urge rarely survives the hour.
Where has distance made you crueler than you would be otherwise?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
