Say “that was Maya’s idea” out loud in the meeting. People remember who hands out credit.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Attribution is nearly free to give and expensive to receive, which makes it one of the better exchanges available in any group. Passing credit along does not subtract from your standing; it adds the impression of someone confident enough not to need all of it. Whoever you name will remember it years after everybody has forgotten the idea itself.

Name a source out loud this week in front of people whose opinion counts. Be specific about what they contributed instead of thanking the room in general. Do it once and watch how quickly people start bringing their good ideas to you.
