You can’t lead a team you’re secretly competing against. Pick one.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
Competing with the people you are meant to be developing corrupts every decision quietly. You withhold small things, favour the plans you look good in, feel something sour when someone does well, and none of it shows from outside except as a vague sense that you cannot quite be relied on. The split usually grows out of fear rather than ambition.
Notice whether you feel pleased or uneasy when someone on your side succeeds. If it is uneasy, say plainly to yourself what you are afraid of losing. Then hand that person something that will make them look good and see how it sits.
Who on your side are you quietly keeping score against?
