Your real influence is what people do after you’ve left the room.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
Compliance while you are watching says very little. It is easy to produce and it evaporates the moment the supervision does. What actually persists is whatever people took on as their own: a habit, a standard, a way of talking to each other that continues without anyone enforcing it.
Look at a group you used to be part of and notice what still runs the way you set it up. Then work backwards: those things survived because people understood them, not because you insisted. Aim the rest of your effort at that kind of transfer.
What happens in a room right after you leave it?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
