Good leaders absorb the pressure from above so the team can focus below. Be the umbrella, not the drain.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Pressure that passes straight through you arrives at people who can do nothing about it, and all it buys is a slower, more anxious version of the same work. Part of holding a position is deciding what information helps and what merely spreads alarm. That filtering is quiet, tiring, and mostly invisible to everyone it protects.

The next time you receive an urgent message from above, wait an hour before repeating it downward. Work out what actually needs to change and pass only that along. Carry the worry yourself, and tell someone you trust that you are carrying it.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

What pressure could you absorb instead of passing it along?
