In a band, the drummer rarely gets the solo, but everybody plays to their clock.
LEADERSHIP
LEADERSHIP
Some roles are structural rather than visible. The person keeping time is not being featured, and yet every other part of the performance is organized around what they are doing, which makes their steadiness load-bearing in a way applause never reflects. Plenty of the most important jobs in any group work like this.
If you hold that kind of role, judge yourself on whether the thing held together rather than on how much of it pointed at you. If someone else holds it, say out loud that you know. People in steady roles almost never hear it.
Who sets the pace in your group without any spotlight?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
