“What do you need from me?” is five words that fix more problems than any motivational speech.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Most stuck situations are not motivational problems. Something specific is missing: a decision, a piece of information, permission, an hour of someone’s time. Asking directly turns a vague sense that things are going badly into a list of items, and lists can be worked through. It also shows you intend to be useful rather than impressive.

Ask that question once a week of someone who is struggling, and then actually provide whatever they name. If the answer is nothing, wait and ask again later. Most people need a second invitation before they will tell you the true one.
