Reliability is built from boring actions performed before anyone becomes worried.

Dependability is not built during crises. It is built in the ordinary stretches when nothing is wrong and nobody is paying attention: the checks, the practice, the tidying, the small preparations. By the time worry appears, the window for building it has closed and you are simply finding out what was done earlier.

Use a calm period deliberately for boring preparatory work. It is the only time it can be done, and it entirely determines how the next difficult period goes.
