Before you can lead anyone, you have to notice them. Most people are too busy being noticed.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
Attention is mostly spent in one direction, and the direction is usually inward: how am I coming across, what should I say next, did that land. Whatever is left over goes to reading other people, which is why so little of it gets done. Turning it outward is unusual enough that people feel it immediately.
In your next group setting, give yourself the job of noticing rather than contributing. Watch who is being talked over, who has gone quiet, who is waiting for a gap. Say one thing at the end based on what you saw rather than what you prepared.
Who did you overlook while waiting for your own turn?
